Remote Storage uses Call Number instead of Effective Call Number

Purpose: When accessioning an item to an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS), the Remote Storage module uses the item Call Number field, not the Effective Call Number field. The result of this is that enumeration/chronology/volume data is not included in the ASRS software. This makes it difficult for staff to look up a specific volume or year for a serial or periodical volume. Having Remote Storage use the Effective Call Number field will make it easier for staff to look up specific volumes directly in the ASRS software. 

User story statement(s):

Library staff on occasion will look up and retrieve items from ASRS using the ASRS software instead of FOLIO. Currently, Remote Storage does not provide the volume data when accessioning new materials. Staff have to take extra steps to locate the volume in FOLIO inventory, copy the barcode, and then perform a barcode lookup in the ASRS software. Being able to do a title lookup and then selecting the specific volume directly in the ASRS software would be much more efficient.

   • Given library is using Remote Storage module and has tagged locations as Remote Storage.

   • When an accession is created in Remote Storage

   • Then Remote Storage will use the Effective Call Number field instead of the Call Number field.
