NCIP Checkout service should trim any leading/trailing whitespace from the item barcode value.  (Test checkin too)

I've created CIRC-1293 to represent a "parent" ticket for this regression - it's still unclear as to where/how this should be addressed, so please hold off on working on this ticket in the meantime.

UICHKOUT-506 appears to have a regression and you can no longer check out item barcodes with whitespace at all; please hold off on this ticket until we are able to determine whether it should be fixed module by module or in the underlying mod-circulation code.
