The purpose of this card is to support mapping of genre / form values captured in the MARC 008 field of an incoming MARC record in order to populate the Genre component defined as part of the Work entity.
In the MARC 008, positions 24-27 are reserved for ‘Nature of content’ when the record describes a book. Many of the codes supported in this part of the 008 can be used to record genre / form. This is in addition to genre values that are recorded in the MARC 655.
Accordingly, the genre / form values taken from the MARC 008/24-27 will be treated the same as if they were present in the MARC 655 field.

Processing of values from the 008/24-27 (books) field should basically mirror processing of values in the MARC 655. The data graph diagram from is copied here - with slight modifications to focus on genre terms only.

TEST CASES
1. Form class already present in data graph
Each of the 17 genre codes in the table above has a corresponding MARC Authority record. The label for the 008 coded value (table above) is identical with the authorized label in the 155 $a of the corresponding MARC Authority record.
Where the authority resource has already been created in the data graph, any of the genre values captured in the 008/24-27 field of a bibliographic record will map to a corresponding Form resource in the data graph.
The Concept, Form resource will also have been created in the data graph, per
The Form resource will also have an outbound link to the Identity, LCCN resource.
2. Form class not present in data graph
In the event that a MARC Authority record for any given genre has not been already loaded, the same resources (Concept, Form; Form, and Identity, LCCN) will be created out of the bibliographic record populated with the same properties.
However, the resources will not have the ‘isPreferred = true’ property, since the resources were generated from a bibliographic record.
