Goals

SIP2-89: Implement patron PIN field instead of patron password field

  • SIP2 is a communications protocol that sends a validation question: Who is this barcode? etc. FOLIO sends the answer and then requests the PIN. However, PIN is incompatible for the password field in the user record; must to be stored in a separate field.
    • This is for situations where PIN is needed for validation such as self-checkout or kiosk checkout.
    • If library uses password to validate user, scanning the library card will prompt user to type password. Not all libraries will use the PIN for validation.
    • Referring to RA SIG for input and feedback.
  • How do libraries using Folio handle several different patron types with different borrowing/due date schedules?  (From Slack discussion)
    • Referring discussion to RA SIG.
  • There has been some feedback regarding pop-up notes.
    • The actual text of the feedback:  Feedback for your design team: The "close" and "delete" buttons on a patron record note are positioned and background-color filled confusingly. I'd expect the common action (close) to be bottom-right and weighted more heavily (larger and/or + color contrast) as opposed to the delete button being in that position.
    • We've discussed this before, and designed the look and actions deliberately based on primary and secondary actions.  Do we need to revisit this issue?
    • Discussion: Yes, we need to revisit this issue.
    • User notes (not related to a patron block) display as a pop-up when the user record is open for check out.
    • Placement of Close and Delete Note buttons appear in traditional positions of pop-up windows. Primary action (delete note) on the right; secondary action (cancel/no action) on the left.
    • SUGGESTION: Can we make the case that the primary action is Close and secondary action is Delete Note so the placement of the buttons can be switched around?
    • Notes: Can delete a note is a separate permission. If user is not assigned this permission, they will still see the Delete button and can delete the note. Delete Note button should not appear if the User does not have the Notes: Can delete a note permission assigned.  Is this a bug?
    • No confirmation or "Are you sure?" message appears when deleting note!
    • SUGGESTION: What about removing the option to delete a note from the pop-up window (in Check Out) altogether so that Close is the only option? This would prevent Notes from being accidentally deleted. All Patron Notes would be deleted from the user record in the Users app and only users assigned the Notes: Can delete a note permission could delete a note. Perhaps add an Actions column with pencil icon (edit) and trash can icon (delete) in the Notes accordion of the User record.
