Scott Peterson of MOBIUS demonstrated his strategy for migrating OKAPI permissions to Eureka permissions

Scott went over the differences between the OKAPI and Eureka platforms and what that means for FOLIO permissions as they evolve into roles.

• Because there is a permissions->roles migration script, this significant software update requires no immediate intervention for staff to do their work.

• Scott highlighted Capability Sets and Capabilities and how they work with Sunflower.

• Of note were the categories of Data, Settings & Procedures and how they could be set for VIEW, EDIT, CREATE, DELETE, and MANAGE.

  • Data - Record changes, UI access to apps

  • Settings - View/Update Settings

  • Procedures - Permissions to take actions e.g. anonymize a patron’s loans

• Capability Sets & Capabilities work with one another, one as a parent grouping and one as a subgroup.

• For ECS, this is required for both the Staff User Account and the Shadow Account since that interacts with the central tenant. 

• Permissions that don’t map exactly come across as hash tags of letter and number strings.  They are harmless and can be “resolved” later as you clean up your role sets and define any local ones you might need.

• Consortium Manager allows you to “push” down sets to other tenants in the Sunflower, ECS environment.

• Scott volunteered to share his Google Sheets on how he exported the local settings so he could manipulate and create appropriate sets outside of the system for future (ease) of use.
