Technical Design Decision | Teams must document deployment requirements in a clear & consistent way We are the stakeholders; works has to be done by the developers. We should say at what place we need that documentation. Documentation should be put in the module descriptors and, if it doesn't fit in there, in the README files of the modules. jroot started a running list of all of the back-end modules, their env vars and ports to work, and if they needed a db connection or not. It will be useful to carry forward this list to have it as a central place of reference. | ||
All around the new Iris R1 release | all | A new feature of Iris R1 is the Elasticsearch integration. There are the new modules mod-search and mod-inventory_es. These modules do not have to be installed if one does not want to use Elasticsearch. Elasticearch does not need to be installed. It is a proof of concept. A new searchable key field is being generated for each inventory item upon migration. For 9 mio records, migration (=upgrade) will take approx. 3 hours to run. A Hotfix Release of R1 will be released on May 28th. This will concern only a couple of modules. The hotfix release will not contain schema changes - In fact, no hotfix release should contain those. This is the dashboard for the R1 2021 Iris Hot Fix #1 - FOLIO Issue Tracker . Consider if you may want to wait until Hot Fix #1, if you haven't switched to R1, yet. We went through the R1 2021 (Iris) Release Notes . Kafka environment variables need to be tweaked, because mod-inventory-storage now depends on Kafka. Also other modules now communicate with Kafka directly. 5 more modules are interacting with Kafka now. Kafka must be re-configured an re-started before the modules are being deployed. FOr mod-inventory-storage, the same approach as for mod-pubsub may be applied. Instructions to set all the necessary parameters for Kafka and the modules are being given here Settings and configuration details for Data Import (applicable from R1 2021 Iris release onwards) . Anton Emelianov (Deactivated)points out, that it might be worthwhile to wait for the Iris R1 #1 hotfix. Environment variables for mod-pubsub can be set; if not set, default value will be used, which will be insecure. jrootposted a Kafka YAML config file in the #sys-ops Slack chat on May 4th. |
