In-place data migrations aka live database updates (database migration)

Jason, all

UXPROD-2120: support for upgrading schemas without complete reload of data (DB migrations) - rollout + devopsClosed

TAMU is going to test out migration scripts which are going to be released with the Q4 release candidate.

Looking for others to join this effort and work together.

Meeting Notes:

Q4 is running in snapshot and snapshot-test, but there is not yet a Q4 release that can be built with dependencies.

snapshot = tip of the developmemt. There was a code freeze for Q4 on Dec 4th.

Bugfest : next week.

Q4: we want to test data migration with the new migration scripts.

Jason: We're duplicating our existing Q3.2 instance, then use that area to migrate the modules with the scripts. Want to explore the readiness of the migration scripts. It probably won't work. The question will then be, how broken is this ?

Jason: 1. Stand up a Q4 instance from scratch.

2. Migrate and upgrade from a running Q3.2 instance.

Robbie and Chris will try out the same process, too.

Dale migrated inventory (instances, holdings, items).

Jason: we also loaded vendors and orders, want to test them, too.

Robbie will go live with ERM only, initially. But he will be running the whole system. Never was someone able to deploy only a set of modules, which would be only for ERM. This has been reported by a member of the ERM working group.

Q: When will Chalmers go over to Q4 ?

Anton: They definitely have to updgrade soon. There are certain bugs. They need to get Q4, soon.

Ingolf

We will meet next week and exchange our experiences with installing / running Q4.
