 UX prototype of the FOLIO setup guide

 @Filip Jakobsen

 For a preview of the conceptual prototype, see here: https://ux.folio.org/prototype/en/install-folio?view=full

Conceptually, the goal is to make it comparable to setting up a WordPress website.

Concerns:

  • Complexity of setting up technical backend is hidden – backend would probably need to be set up before the wizard could run

  • Data mapping/analysis is much of the heavy lifting – does this concept simplify this process, or does it just hide it?

  • Is the effort worthwhile? Who is the audience? (probably not this group)

  • The timing may be too early to be able to think about this in detail

  • Some library data are simply too complex, with too many edge cases

All that said, there are a few of use cases where all or part of this design may be relevant:

  • For libraries that want to "kick the tires" – something simpler to deploy and customize than a pre-packaged Vagrant box

  • For SaaS providers who want to offer a simple interface to customers to assist them in setting up demo systems, or to help them get started with their own migration

  • As a way to start a system setup, particularly with respect to loading "reference data" (simple data such as user groups or item statuses)
