FOLIO Eureka Sys Ops Topics

Meeting notes today:

Ingolf: From Tech Council: platform-complete, snapshot branch, will be retired. The Jenkins pipeline will be retired and replaced by github actions.

Jason: You can build the UI from this branch:
https://github.com/folio-org/platform-lsp/tree/R1-2025-csp-6

Mahrad: One Chart per Module. Shooting for Argo CD. Shooting for a Helm Chart for a FOLIO Release. Shooting for a multi-tenant system.
Jason: I have been wanting that for years!
Mahrad / Florian: We will share it.
We will look at Kubernetes Operator. In Eureka.
Jason: There was an Okapi Kubernetes Operator.

Florian: It didn’t get much further than Draft Status. We hope to get a Kubernetes Operator for Eureka.
Mahrad: I will contribute in Go Language.
Shelley: A FOLIO App could be the custom resource.
Florian: We want to have a meaningful default which would publish a major release. If you don't set the version, you should get a basic installation. We will use human readability names, probably the names of the modules. We will have a dictionary. At least that is the idea. Most of the Helm charts is actually already done.

Mahrad: We have the capability to use Vertical Part Autoscalers (VPA). Vertical scaling for memory.
If you have VPA, then you will enable cpu scaling also.
Mahrad: vertical scaler plus 2 static replicas. Tow pods will not be scheduled in the same node.
Shelley: What will it take to copy the Keycloak database to another environment ?
Jason: postgres / will move to RDS
Shelley: Using strimsy instead of Bitnami. strimsy is an operator which installs Kafka.
Mahrad: It becomes easier to work with, because Topics have a custom resource. You can allow extra topics.

Shelley: At data import of invoices. That Kafka topic only gets created when the user does a thing.
Want to manage topics better. Had to delete Edifact topics.
Mahrad: AKH Kube. A UI for Patchy Kafka. It has way more features than the (regular) Kafka UI.
Jason: A Kafka HA Deployment. Maybe will turn that into a Helm charts. See what the Post-Bitnami people will do. Haven't tried the Apache Foundation Helm Chart.

Florian: The minio Repo is archived now.
A lot of Enterpires volumes support (the S3 storeage). People export their storage.
Magnus: We did that with CEPH.
