Requesting serials: one patron request for multiple items
Technical designs (in progress)
Current situation or problem:
Requests for multivolume series and continuing resources can only be done at the item level. Patrons should be able to request several parts/volumes in discovery/OPAC in one form. Each part/volume requested in discovery/OPAC requires a separate request in FOLIO. Staff need to have retrieval/pick slips for the requested parts/volumes print from FOLIO.
In scope:
A thin thread solution that allows FOLIO to receive item level requests (all request types - page, recall, and hold) for parts/volumes of serials and multipart monographs from OPAC/Discovery (as a single patron request) and create individual requests in FOLIO for each part/volume requested. It is necessary that each part/volume be requested to enable check out of the requested materials. Currently, all materials must be requested to enable check out in FOLIO with mod-tlr enabled. This should work for single tenant and standard ECS libraries as well. All OPAC/discovery tools should be able to access and utilize this development (VuFInd, Blacklight, EDS, Locate, etc.).
Applicable for serials and collected works (multipart instance records)

Request outcomes:
When a request is placed in FOLIO via OPAC/Discovery, the following outcomes are possible:
Request is not placed successfully, and an error is sent
Circulation rules conflict, i.e., Patron and item combination not allowed
Missing item or other issue with item being found or loaned (item status does not allow request type)
System error (tech fluke)
Request successfully placed, depending on request policies, loan policies, and patron group, as
