New SIG Convener for RA SIG: @Susan Kimball . Thank you @Jana Freytag for your service!

WOLFCon planning is on its way. @Jesse Koennecke is planning to open the Call for Proposals around the end of the month.

  • Kansas City, MO, Sept. 22-27: Westin Downtown - should have plenty of rooms and good location to get to KC sites

  • Registration will be coming soon

  • Individuals should be able to present virtually, but this will be confirmed

  • There will be a charge for virtual attendance, but it will be lower than onsite registration

Eureka transition updates from early adopters

@Kemner-Heek, Kirstin @Jeremy Huff @Charlotte Whitt

Not further updates this week. No red flags, just taking time.

So far, permissions are the most complicated issue on the user end. Is there something that we should be doing helping folks with setting up permissions? This could be something for us to think about and help organize?

  • documentation and instructions would be helpful - maybe delegate to Implementers SIG/RA/UM? @Susan Kimball will check in with @Thomas Trutt

  • EBSCO is working on Dev Ops documentation and will start bringing it over to the project wiki

SIG Conveners and PC members

SIG Reports 2025-02-13

  1. Prioritization process updates

    1. Metadata Management @Felix Hemme @Raegan Wiechert

      1. Early stages of collecting implementers issues. We’ve always had a parking lot and have gone through it before, but struggled with moving items in the parking.

      2. Newer model is closer to the Acquisitions SIG: Metadata Management Implementers Topics

      3. This is a way for anyone in the SIG to add a concern and make sure it gets engaged. Lowers barriers for participation and should expand interaction.

      4. Tagging issues in Jira. There is a Jira dashboard to keep track of the work. New widget to see open and not yet planned features so people can vote on features

      5. Planning to have monthly meetings (probably 4th Thursday of the month) dedicated to review of implementers topics

    2. App Interaction @Tara Barnett @Martina Schildt

      1. All issues in Jira are labeled with Cross-App SIG label

      2. Creating individual dashboard to find linked issues related to a specific topic.

      3. We did talk about having people vote or adding labels, but decided to work from Google spreadsheet to rank them high to low. To snapshot in time, created a wiki page with the status and reason why we were ranking the way we were:Cross App SIG Jira Priorities 2025-01-15  and Cross App SIG tickets

      4. We hope this will result in the priorities being worked on in roughly this order. Shared list with POs. There is not one PO for AI, nor is there a development team.

      5. Some items on the bottom need more work before they can be added to the list.

      6. We like the snapshot in time as a way to see the progress being made.

    3. Resource Access (@Susan Kimball )

      1. Large Jira backlog. Creating a list and going through them to target them for keep or closure

      2. After that, we are inviting @Martina Schildt to go through the process.

      3. We have a gap list too, sort of in between parking lot and new topics. We need to see what are new tickets and what need to be represented in Jira.

      4. Held a session with @julie.bickle on how to write Jira tickets

    4. consortia (@Lucy Harrison )

      1. Currently tagging Jira tickets for needs

      2. After that is done, SIG will look at overarching goals

    5. Reporting (@Sharon Markus and @Scott Perry )

      1. Working on Metadb 1.4 release and testing the reporting app for Ramsoms for Metadb

      2. We have confirmed that LDLite does not work with Eureka

        1. Believe this is related to RTRs, @Brooks Travis can follow up with Sharon

      3. Working on SIG goals for 2025 and a document called “What is reporting?”

    6. “housekeeping” of Jira - checking out older tickets to see what should be carried forward and what could be closed. - good practice for all SIGs

  2. Encouraging SIG member participation

    1. Some people get tired of asking for the same thing over and over again, so how can we keep people engaged?

    2. Example of win: @Julian Ladisch picked up UXPROD-5152: Sort holdings by location name and call numberClosed to sort holdings in alphabetical order. Could be a way to get more participation too.

    3. Subject matter expert participation is what makes FOLIO FOLIO. Do we still have an onboarding option?

      1. We tried to get something going with Onboarding, but it fell through

      2. Sounds like we need to revisit this. We just don’t have a good path

    4. How can we make FOLIO more welcoming to institutions of all sizes? Large institutions feel unsupported, but smaller institutions feel like large institutions dominate the conversation because they have more people?

    5. Can we push the responsibility to make people step up and not just rely on them volunteering? Pose the question: do we need to make a “hard ask”?

    6. We can take this question back to CC too, as they are trying to encourage more active membership and more institutions to join.

    7. SIGs are slowing down because it feels like the same things are discussed over and over. What we really need is development support and getting desired functionality through.

09:50:33 From Tara Barnett (Index Data) to Everyone:
I find the process of making it possible for people to participate in specific projects or efforts really challenging. It’s super important, but I definitely think it’s surprisingly difficult to lay the path down.

09:51:26 From Laura Daniels to Everyone:
Replying to "I find the process of making it possible for peopl...":

In ACQ SIG, the SIG conveners offer for new members to stay longer after a meeting to help with onboarding.

09:53:40 From Lucy to Everyone:
With that, I need to run to a meeting... See you all next time

09:54:33 From Laura Daniels to Everyone:
Sharon, I remember some requirements like that being at least stated if not enforced back in 2017 when I joined

09:56:30 From Jesse Koennecke (he/him) to Everyone:
Person-time contributions do get spelled out somewhat in the membership MOUs

09:57:02 From Jesse Koennecke (he/him) to Everyone:
But there aren't a ton of them.

09:57:15 From Laura Daniels to Everyone:

Do you mean these partner levels?

09:57:32 From Martin Scholz to Everyone:
Replying to "Sharon, I remember some requirements like that bei...":
you would also have to clarify what Kinds of contribution Count and their weight

09:58:24 From Tara Barnett (Index Data) to Everyone:
I just feel like this will exclude particularly vulnerable libraries already struggling.
Maura Byrne, Martin Scholz, Laura Daniels:💯

09:58:41 From Sharon Markus to Everyone:

Ask the convener...
Scott Perry (UChicago):👍

09:58:42 From Jesse Koennecke (he/him) to Everyone:
Yes - the Contributing Partner level calls for a 20 person hour commitment. The other levels are just $.

09:59:44 From Martina Schildt | VZG to Everyone:
+1 Cornelia
Laura Daniels, Tod Olson, Maura Byrne:➕

09:59:53 From Martin Scholz to Everyone:
+100 Cornelia 🙂
Charlotte Whitt:👍

09:59:54 From Jesse Koennecke (he/him) to Everyone:
Some of the $ level member institutions also contribute person hours as well and that is sometimes included on the MOU.

10:00:12 From Susan Kimball to Everyone:
Thanks all, gotta run to RA SIG

10:00:31 From Jana Freytag to Everyone:
Same here.

10:00:33 From Tod Olson to Everyone:
A couple points that may be relevant:
OSS projects tend toward many more adaptors that contributors,
Market fit issues will help bring more adopters, that is the main source of additional participants,
And to Cornelia's point, there needs to be some tangible result of active participation or it is discouraging.

10:00:54 From Laura Daniels to Everyone:
thank you for starting this conversation
Jennifer Eustis:➕
Charlotte Whitt:👍
