Inventory/MARC Authority Search

Goals

• Make search work in the way users are accustomed to searching (for example, double quotes)

• Privilege precision over recall 

  • FOLIO Inventory Search in its current state often makes precise searching difficult due to word stemming and fuzzy logic

  • While word stemming and fuzzy logic are appropriate for environments such as search engines, library catalogs must support exact searches to ensure Library staff find known items as well as execute searches that return accurate and appropriate results.

• Do not make users rely on query search for precise searching. It is not realistic to assume that most staff will learn this query language to perform their work. The UI should support precise searching without resorting to CQL.

• However, when used, query search should work consistently; ensure consistency in query search, specifically operators
