Bugfest check-in: How does testing worked for people until now?

Laura tested version history in Inventory.

Felix conducted testing using the UAT environment, and it looks promising. From an European perspective, he likes that there is a feature to disable it (turned on by default), and you can control the number of versions of a record. ERM testing for agreements and licenses went well except for importing data in the Local KB. It is not related to the apps themselves, but, rather, how they are set up in the Sunflower environment.

Laura mentioned that a lot of test cases are very old, or it is not always clear what should be tested. It would helpful for subject experts to review test cases and re-write them to be more useful.

Felix agreed that test cases should reflect current functionality, and we should continue to reach out to POs regarding how to best support them.

Bugfest officially ended April 11th, but it has been extended. It is not unclear for how long, but it will probably be another 1-3 weeks.

Continue to review and discuss the list Metadata Management Implementers Topics

SIG

  • Topic #28 Implement Container record structure:

    • Before we review this topic with the whole SIG we would like to prepare a slide deck outlining what the container record would/could be along with some current use cases. This could help people that have not been involved in the previous discussions dating years back, but also reminding people that have been attending the MM SIG

      since its inception.

    • Who would be interested to help preparing the slides?

    • Laura said that she would be interested in the smaller group which would create the slides. If others are interested in joining the group, they should reach out to Laura and Felix. After the small group work is completed, this topic will presented at a future MM meeting.

  • Topic #2 Inventory: Strip leading, trailing, and double spaces out of data in some elements (instance, holdings, item) MM has not agreed about what to do about multiple spaces within a text string.

    • Felix has asked Khalilah about the status of work. This feature is not scheduled for Trillium.

    •  Laura mentioned that this would be one of her highest priorities. When copying from Excel, there is an extra space, which can cause searches to fail. Laura and Felix agreed that this should be an industry standard. At a future meeting, we will discuss adding labels to these JIRAS.

  • Topic #3 Multiple Graphical Representations:

    • We have an open TODO to update the Jira feature with the most recent documentation. Who would feel responsible to do the work?

    • Laura volunteered to update JIRAs. She may have done it already.

  • Topic #18 Ability to maintain relationships with other apps when holdings/items are moved:

    • We have an open TODO to reach out to the RA SIG about this. Who would like to do this?

    • The group agreed to talk about this topic first in a future MM meeting before reaching out to the Resource Access SIG.

  • Topic #22 Add source URI to Inventory instance metadata:

    • Development work has started 🥳

    • Mike Taylor (front end) and Clementine (back end) from Index Data are working on this, and it is scheduled for Trillium.

  • Topic #24 Ability to see staff suppression when searching for holdings and item - Review of Staff Suppression and how this behaves in FOLIO Inventory:

    • Can someone confirm that the behaviour of the Inventory search is being rolled back in Sunflower? I’ve read that on the wiki.

    • Felix will test this.

  • Main topic for today can be #12 Make 336 (instance resource type) repeatable on Instance records.

Product Council updates

Jennifer Eustis

2025-04-17 Product Council Agenda and Meeting Notes

The Product Council discussed preparing for WOLFcon. There will be sessions on the FOLIO roadmap in general, and sessions that focus on community development. They also discussed community priorities. The Product Council will request from all SIGs their top 5 priorities. They will gather and write up this list for a prototype.

This was discussion regarding BELA being able to submit their top five priorities, but not the Data Import Working Group. Data Import having its own SIG will be added as an agenda item for a future MM SIG meeting, and it will be discussed at a future Data Import Working Group meeting. This will also be brought to the attention of the Product Council.

The Privacy SIG will be revived, and Jenn Colt is interested in doing it. It is unclear whether it will be a full SIG or a support group.  If you are interested, reach out to Jenn Colt via Slack.

Elections are coming up (probably May or June). If you are interested in serving on a product council, reach out to Jennifer or Charlotte.

BELA (Bulk Edit and Lists App)

Jennifer Eustis

2025-04-15 BELA Meeting Notes The discussion was on scheduling jobs. UXPROD-4025: Creating and Managing Bulk Edit Profiles for Scheduling JobsIn Refinement If you are interested in this, please comment and vote for this issue.

Felix will add a comment regarding whether this includes recurring jobs.

It is not related to the Workflows app. It is about setting up jobs in Settings for Bulk Edit. The Workflows app is related to connecting to third-party applications.

Data Import Working Group

Jennifer Eustis

2025-04-16 Data Import Subgroup Meeting Notes The discussion was on how SME’s define updating one field in a MARC srs record. Unlike Bulk Edit, DI would be used when there is no constant data. We decided that to have the full functionality that we want is to prioritize connecting MarcEdit to FOLIO, UXPROD-2829: Connect MARCedit to FOLIO SRSOpen . Next week we will review this issue. Please comment and vote if you want this.

Line breaks are similar to this.

Any invisible characters in the search box are a problem.

absolutely, I believe we have asked that carriage returns be treated as white space
Amanda Scott:👍

10:45:15 From Christie Thomas (she/her) to Everyone:
It is not always a problem that is easy to identify and can lead to wrong assumptions about the search results.

10:53:06 From Laura Daniels to Everyone:
I just opened bugfest, looks like it was rolled back -- but I'd like someone else to check and confirm

10:54:26 From Jennifer Eustis to Everyone:
For topic 8 on the implementers sheet, for the hierarchical view, https://folio-org.atlassian.net/browse/UXPROD-491, it looks like we can't vote for this issue.

10:54:34 From Laura Daniels to Everyone:
yes, I'm pretty sure the MARC mapping takes the first one also

10:55:31 From Lynne Fors to Everyone:
Replying to "For topic 8 on the implementers sheet, for the hie...":
I think it's because of the status.

10:56:15 From Laura Daniels to Everyone:
Replying to "For topic 8 on the implementers sheet, for the hie...":
I'm seeing the vote option on this feature

10:57:20 From Jennifer Eustis to Everyone:
Replying to "For topic 8 on the implementers sheet, for the hie...":
Apparently it's a work item which I guess disables the vote feature

10:58:09 From Lynne Fors to Everyone:
I agree Laura. Sometimes I need to find all the bibs that are text and have accompanying media.

10:58:23 From Lisa Furubotten TA&M to Everyone:
Is it because it filters down to items?

10:58:33 From Laura Daniels to Everyone:
I think Christie is right

10:59:06 From Laura Daniels to Everyone:
Replying to "Is it because it filters down to items?":
it doesn't filter to items, they have their own material type that is not necessarily tied to the bib data

10:59:13 From Lynne Fors to Everyone:
Replying to "For topic 8 on the implementers sheet, for the hie...":
The status would have to change in order for us to vote on it. It probably should be reevaluated since the analysis happened years ago and a lot has changed since then in Inventory.

11:00:40 From Laura Daniels to Everyone:
Replying to "I think Christie is right":
we had some long meetings talking through what "resource type" should even mean

11:03:15 From Lisa Furubotten TA&M to Everyone:
Replying to "Is it because it filters down to items?":
I'm wrong -- It's 337 that filters down to item.

11:04:52 From Christie Thomas (she/her) to Everyone:
Replying to "Original Instance properties: https://docs.google....":
This spreadsheet even includes codex mapping!
Laura Daniels:🙀

11:08:02 From Felix Hemme to Everyone:
👏 Jenn!
Laura Daniels:💯

11:10:28 From Christie Thomas (she/her) to Everyone:
Will that be done in a way that can be used by data import in the future?

11:10:36 From Christie Thomas (she/her) to Everyone:
Even if data import is not in scope right now?

11:14:16 From Christie Thomas (she/her) to Everyone:
I think that is a good idea. Thanks.

11:15:42 From Laura Daniels to Everyone:
or we need, as a community, to fund more dev teams!

11:16:30 From Jenn Colt to Everyone:
I have heard that it is happening but nothing about how it is distributed

11:18:14 From Christie Thomas (she/her) to Everyone:
So does data import, though.

11:18:55 From Christie Thomas (she/her) to Everyone:
So, MM SIG is setting priorities for data import?

11:20:23 From Jenn Colt to Everyone:
Without generating too many priorities….
Laura Daniels:➕

11:23:31 From Laura Daniels to Everyone:
If someone is willing to convene, it would make sense for it to be a SIG

11:23:33 From Christie Thomas (she/her) to Everyone:
Does BELA have a liaison to PC?

11:24:06 From Katie Rahman to Everyone:
Data import definitely needs some work. At our institution, data import causes a lot issues with source records, but we really do not know what causes it.

11:25:01 From Jenn Colt to Everyone:
Sorry, it just came to mind because they were right next to each other in the updates!

11:25:17 From Felix Hemme to Everyone:
Does other SIGs also have such organisational issues with their sub groups? E.g. ACQ with serials, claiming etc.?

11:25:18 From Christie Thomas (she/her) to Everyone:
Thank you for bringing it up.

11:25:19 From Laura Daniels to Everyone:
and DI has much broader impacts than metadata
Christie Thomas (she/her):💯

11:30:18 From Felix Hemme to Everyone:
That is such a good question, Christie. 🙁
