The following categories of constituents were defined while working with the Library of Congress to build new linked data functionality for FOLIO. These groups of users represent different roles and needs. This user set touches the full data lifecycle of entities, from creation to use, and beyond.

Cataloger

  1. Persona type: Library staff

  2. Creates bibliographic descriptions in BIBFRAME and MARC for library materials using specialized knowledge of cataloging rules and standards. Catalogers search in a full range of languages using Latin and non-Latin scripts. Catalogers are responsible for subject description and all controlled forms of entries.



Technician

  1. Persona type: Library staff

  2. Assists with the maintenance of BIBFRAME resources by performing technical tasks such as copy cataloging and CIP verification. Technicians send records back to catalogers when they detect issues with subject or added entries.



Reference Librarian

  1. Persona type: Library staff

  2. Helps users navigate the library's BIBFRAME catalog, locate materials, and answer reference questions related to the catalog.



Acquisitions Specialist

  1. Persona type: Library staff

  2. Uses BIBFRAME to track and manage the library's acquisitions of new materials, including ordering, receiving, and cataloging.



Database Manager

  1. Persona type: Library staff

  2. Oversees the creation, implementation, and maintenance of metadata policies and standards, including BIBFRAME, for the library's collections.



Catalog User

  1. Persona type: Library patron

  2. Searches and retrieves information from the library's BIBFRAME catalog to locate materials of interest, such as books, journals, and multimedia.



Catalog Power User

  1. Persona type: Library patron

  2. Utilizes advanced search strategies and techniques within the library's BIBFRAME catalog to locate materials and may have a specialized area of research or expertise.



Librarian Users

  1. Persona type: Library patron

  2. Utilizes advanced search strategies to find single descriptions and reuse one record at a time while copy cataloging.



Library Users / CDS Customer

  1. Persona type: Library patron

  2. Utilizes advanced search strategies to get records in bulk from LC’s Cataloging Distribution Service.
