Product Council Update |

Subgroup Updates and Other Updates | Technical Council discussed UUID and HRID at meeting 3/20 Charlotte believes the conclusion is good. The outcome is ultimately that the HRID will be mapped to the 001. Data Import: Today's meeting was a follow-up to the tech council meeting about Data Import and HRIDs and UUIDs. An idea was outlined that may eventually be brought to the MM SIG. MARCCat Subgroup: MARC Holdings as well as the issue of prediction patterns and serials receiving have arisen. Laura will reach out to the RM SIG and Dennis to have a joint discussion to see where the connections between apps need to happen. The EAD-to-Inventory Metadata Mapping Subgroup ("mapping to inventory beyond MARC") is forming and should have something to report soon. | |
Repeatable identifiers in Inventory | Ann-Marie Breaux (Deactivated) | Valid vs invalid; normalization? How much information/detail is needed? See also: JIRA ticket - - UIIN-483Getting issue details... STATUS Resource identifier types - list of Folio defined terms:
________________________________________________ This list will be configurable in FOLIO. It's not in FOLIO yet, but will be when developer resources are found. A suggestion was made of using a DOI as an identifier by Sara Colglazier. Ann-Marie liked that suggestion. This suggestion is added to the JIRA, UIIN-483. Felix (via chat): "I asked for adding DOIs, URNs and Handles last year in the Inventory elements spreadsheet. Please add it to the list." ISBN (invalid) will initially be a human readable version of the MARC format. Should Product IDs be distinguishable from Record IDs? Laura pointed out that Record IDs are administrative data. Sara Colglazier thought having both the Product IDs and Record IDs distinguishable and visible, that would be helpful. Why should the number of identifiers be limited? What is the rational for narrowing the choices? Ann-Marie argued that orders do not require every piece of information. For example, subject headings are not included in inventory and will not be part of the Orders App. Every piece of metadata is not needed: it is specialized to the functions of that app. There is a distinction between what data is stored versus what is accessible when performing an order. Is there any harm in FOLIO calculating and adding an ISBN 13 into that record for display? Tiziana said both are needed at least for storage, but maybe not needed to see from a users point of view. Sara - as long as both can be seen, this would be OK. Hyphens - not needed in ISBNs, but are needed in ISSNs for display. Searches should though be able to read a hyphenated ISBN and call up an un-hyphenated ISBN. Is a "begins with" search needed for ISBNs searches? Search should be case insensitive. |
