Announcements

Laura: The Cross App SIG revisted item state during their meeting earlier this week. Tom Trutt and Laura are co-leading a review of where item state is now-what is working and what is not working. Their long-term goal is to submit a proposal regarding the future development of item state. Laura and Tom will visit various SIGs to get feedback regarding item state including Metadata Management. If MM SIG members have any feedback, please submit it to Laura or Tom. Also, it will be on the agenda for a future MM SIG meeting.

Meeting cycle

@Raegan Wiechert , @Felix Hemme

Survey results show a clear favorite:

grafik-20260114-160811.png

The DI SIG will not meet the last week of the month. If there is a month with 5 weeks then DI takes both week 4 and 5 as a no meeting week.

We could adapt that frequency, resulting in this future MM meeting cycle:

  • Meeting Jan. 15th

  • No meeting Jan. 22nd and 29th

  • Meeting Feb. 5th

  • No meeting Feb. 12th

  • Meeting Feb. 19th

  • No meeting Feb. 26th

  • Meeting March 5th

  • cont.

The MM SIG discussed implementing this new meeting schedule:

  • Felix mentioned that our off weeks can be switched.

  • Charlotte pointed out that bigger holidays, such as Christmas and Easter, have been taken into account when creating the proposal.

  • Jesse mentioned that almost every SIG lands on the 1st and 3rd weeks. Therefore, maybe, some SIGs should take the 2nd and 4th weeks instead. Katie mentioned that this would help with those SIGs that are scheduled at the same time.

  • Charlotte mentioned that it is a misunderstanding that only the fourth week needs to be skipped.

  • Felix asked whether the PC was looking to have an entire week with no FOLIO meetings or was the idea to split it up. Charlotte said the idea was to have a week meeting free. Charlotte also pointed out that the proposal is a trial for three months and then the PC will re-evaluate.

  • Charlotte said changing the weekly schedule to bi-weekly is a trend among the SIGs.

Felix proposed creating a wiki page that outlines the new schedule. If anyone has any scheduling conflicts or other concerns, please contact Felix or Raegan.

For now, the MM SIG will follow the meeting schedule proposed above. The next meeting is February 5.

@Jennifer Eustis

During the Data Import SIG requested that the MM SIG go over the FOLIO Jiras:

Discussion

  • Laura mentioned that these tickets bring up the broader issue of keeping the FOLIO Community aligned with changing cataloging standards, such as changes to the MARC standard, RDA, and common cataloging practices.

  • Laura and Jennifer discussed how the issue of changes to one app may affect other apps. Therefore, the Cross App SIG might have a role in identifying these potential issues.

  • Charlotte proposed including schema changes in release notes.

  • The MM SIG agreed to reach out to POs regarding schema changes.

Jennifer mentioned that BELA is meeting infrequently, so members should check Slack before attending meetings.

Data Import SIG

  • Data Import has adopted the scheduled of:
    week 1: SIG meeting

  • week 2: Workshop meeting

  • week 3: SIG meeting

  • week 4-5: no meeting

Thursday lab will continue. To ensure that people show up, please post your issue on #data-import-sig-lab
We have also created a process to facilitate the community to engage in the development of data import. We are also keeping track of our decisions in a decision log. This work will help us develop a road map for data import as well as a MVP.

2026-01-15 10:38:47 From Jesse R to Everyone:
If every SIG ends up just meeting 1st and 3rd weeks, will that solve the problem of meeting fatigue? It feels like thats the direction we're heading.
Jeanette Kalchik:➕

2026-01-15 10:39:29 From Lloyd Chittenden (Marmot Library Network) to Everyone:
Some SIGs should choose 2nd and 4th, just to spread things out.
