Cross-App SIG is proposing an in-app basic search help component, similar to the keyboard shortcuts, that could be added to any app. Discussed most recently on November 3: https://folio-org.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/AppInt/pages/1336115201

Felix asked who will maintain this documentation: POs, the Documentation SIG, or the SIGs related to the apps. Laura mentioned that the POs will maintain this documentation in consultation with SIGs. Charlotte mentioned when the keyboard shortcuts were implemented a Jira was created that SIGs or POs could copy for use with their own app. Something similar could be created.

bound-with topics + Item re-order demo

Item re-order demo (Ryan)

re-order_demo.png

New features

  • In the instance record view, a new “Order” column. The values in this column represent the order, so you can sort the column.

  • To re-order items, go to the ‘Actions’ menu, then select 'Move items within an instance'.

  • There are three options to re-order items: drag and drop, use check boxes to move multiple items at once, and for items spread across multiple pages, users can edit the order values.

re-order_demo2.png
  • After finishing re-ordering items, select ‘Stop items movement within an instance’.

Ryan mentioned that they are still working on finalizing a couple pieces of development, but hope to get a full UAT on the UI side out soon. Ryan also noted they are working on creating documentation for the wiki.

The MM SIG members expressed excitement about this new feature in the chat.

Bound-with topics From https://folio-org.atlassian.net/wiki/x/UQCxKg

Felix provided a demonstration on how to currently create a bound-with relationship.

Store the physical sorting order of bound-width parts (row 33)

  • Julian fixed the current API, so, currently, they are in order by created date.

  • Currently, there is no way to change this order

  • Vote on UXPROD-5568 if this matters to you.

Felix ask MM SIG whether there is interest in re-ordering bound-withs and whether the method for re-ordering should be similar to what is being done for the re-ordering of items on the instance record.

Discussion

  • There was general agreement that being able to re-order bound-withs is desired functionality.

  • Sara noted that there should be a control, so the parent is always first.

  • Sara mentioned that if we change this at the item level, we should also change it at the instance level.

Shared Bound-with and Analytics record display icon (row 11)

  • Example item record in FOLIO snapshot

  • When viewing the Inventory result list (showing instances), a user can see if a record contains at least one bound-with item, if the

    bound-with icon is displayed. grafik-20251106-142843.png

  • When viewing the list of items in Inventory, a user can see in the third pane that an item is a bound-with because the bound-with icon is displayed. grafik-20251106-142708.png

  • A user can’t distinguish from the pure presence of the bound-with icon, if they are looking at a record “sharing out the item” or the record(s) “being shared with the item”.

  • In the item detail view the user can navigate to the holdings and instance where the item resides by clicking at the top-level navigation structure. grafik-20251106-143145.png

  • To see a list of other holdings/instances that item is linked to, the user can look at the Bound-withs accordion in the item record. grafik-20251106-143256.png

Discussion

  • Felix mentioned that we need to check if the data is available to make this change.

  • Autumn noted that a lot of clicking is required to see bound-with relationships, and there should be an easier way to keep track of the direction of relationships. She also mentioned that when adding new bound-withs that sometimes the parent record gets lost. A visual cue regarding the type of relationship would be helpful.

  • Felix noted that there could be a button or some kind of action where you can switch to see a list of holdings that the item is part of.

  • Sara and Lynne mentioned that there are instances where the bound-with icon is missing. Felix said that a re-index on their FOLIO systems may be needed.

Enable records (Instances & Holdings) that are connected by Shared Items (shared by Bound-with and analytics function) to be retrieved/surfaced when searching in Inventory Item segment as well as re: other Apps like Lists (row 25)

  • Discussed with topic 2.

Next steps for all three topics: Ryan will get in touch with Kimie Kester and get back to the SIG when they have something ready to present.

2025-11-06 10:40:43 From Charlotte Whitt to Everyone:
Really elegantly solved in the UI/UX 🥳

Seriously. This is great.

2025-11-06 10:41:11 From Robert Rendall to Everyone:
We just lost all our beautifully ordered item lists when we migrated from Voyager. Now we can spend the next few decades putting them back in order.
Felix Hemme, Magda Gad:🥲

I lowered my hand because Ryan is answering what I was going to ask about right now.

Replying to "We just lost all our beautifully ordered item list...":
We had a script written that was able to (mostly) put things back in order. It wasn't totally perfect, but it saved a ton of work.
Robert Rendall:👍

2025-11-06 10:42:24 From Laura Daniels to Everyone:
This will be cause for great rejoicing among many of our staff.

2025-11-06 10:43:12 From Natascha Owens (UChicago) to Everyone:
When you change number 6 to number 1, what happens to the other item that is still designated as number 1?

2025-11-06 10:43:40 From Raegan Wiechert to Everyone:
Replying to "We just lost all our beautifully ordered item list...":
I take that back. The script was for our holdings statements not items (sorry, it's almost Friday)

2025-11-06 10:47:01 From Charlotte Whitt to Everyone:
You can also create bound-with relations in Eureka Snapshot :-)

2025-11-06 10:48:09 From Sara Colglazier (MHC/5C) to Everyone:
And the Parent is always first, correct?
Charlotte Whitt:👍

2025-11-06 10:50:46 From Charlotte Whitt to Everyone:
I believe also for the VuFind implementation that the ordering of bound with is important in the display

2025-11-06 10:51:04 From Lynne Fors to Everyone:
I would love if there was an enforceable order that populated the Instance bound-with accordion as well. And the parent is always identified
Joshua Barton, Charlotte Whitt:👍

As a parent, I endorse this. We want that recognition.
Laura Daniels, Ryan Taylor:😀

Yes, Sara has a nice idea for having two icons. One for the parent, and one for all the associated bound withs

2025-11-06 10:52:15 From Lynne Fors to Everyone:
Replying to "I would love if there was an enforceable order tha...":
I have to do this manually now. It can be a lot. And also if the 773/774 MARC relationship could populate the Instance would be helpful.

Different icons and even colors would have to meet accessibility standards.

True

2025-11-06 11:13:19 From Charlotte Whitt to Everyone:
Would Illinois … be a 3rd icon?

2025-11-06 11:13:24 From Felix Hemme to Everyone:
The missing icon seems like a bug in your FOLIO system. Maybe a reindex will fix that?

2025-11-06 11:15:45 From Lynne Fors to Everyone:
Replying to "The missing icon seems like a bug in your FOLIO sy...":
We also don't have a bound-with icon on any of our holdings records (Ramsons-SP-6)

on the Instance record view

2025-11-06 11:16:19 From Charlotte Whitt to Everyone:

That probably can be fixed with running an indexing

Oh, no Icon is displayed on instance to instance linking
