Chicago's ABLE bindery integration

Connection via z39.50 server. Wanted to include all parts of the call number + transform special characters. Complexity of call numbers in FOLIO (it's in different places and fields)

925 subfield mapping + Z-Link Mapping + Call number rule (where to add line breaks of spaces) - we wanted to required as little editing as possible, but there's always some.

Ended up being extremely functional and usable. Everything we wanted ends up being there.

How do you have your call number info in the 952?

ffective call number is created on the fly. Also: The client is very old, and only knows marc fields, so the data you want to give it has to be shoved into a marc field. Part of requirement for z39.50 server was to map stuff from holdings and items into a marc field. It's a specific server for our ABLE client.

What are any common issues you run into?

The connection to Z39.50 server is unstable if you don't use ABLE often. It's a clunky piece of software, but once you learn how to use it, it's ok.

Index Data were good at getting the configuration done + configure our customisations. We use this server for other services: access point for ILL, supporting services for catalogue and info for figuring out what map to displace, Web-based services that don't go deep into FOLIO for the information. This is an edge module that is hosted in the environment. End result = FOLIO has pretty configurable Z39.50 server.

Do you have to worry when they update the Z39.50? Does that ever break anything?

We test before we roll out to production.
