Census Results

  • The original plan: 2026 Survey Project Plan

  • Review the results and preliminary takeaways from the https://forms.gle/CA3Ln46SgsfRLFxk7

    • 99 Respondents (a few keep creeping in, so I haven’t fully closed it yet. I should though.)

      • Despite the number of responses, I suspect that the outreach could have been better. Just eyeballing it, I think we’re missing some big players.

      • The only languages reported are English (some with Swedish formats) and German. Looking over locations, and then looking over https://about.ebsco.com/academic-libraries/products/ebsco-folio/current-sites at the EBSCO sites, we need to figure out a way to reach the libraries in other regions. I’m not sure if the survey language is the barrier or something else.

    • The data is messy--we knew this would be a consequence of making it easy to fill out the form, but this will take some time to clean up.

    • Some immediate observations:

      • I get asked a lot about staff-to-records ratios…I’m not sure why, maybe for planning when seeking out a new ILS? This does appear to answer that question.

      • Significant number of responses from Germany and the US (not surprising).

      • The app matrix is also going to be really interesting. Circ apps appear to be move as a group, while acquisitions apps don’t always go together

      • As expected, libraries located in time zones that aren’t conducive to SIG meetings don’t send their staff to SIG meetings. Didn’t even have to analyze that one out, they straight up told us. There might be some “degrees of inconvenience” intel available in a more granular analysis--for a future survey.

    • Just for fun:

      • The earliest library is Chalmers with Daisy!

      • Not counting ERM-only libraries, the smallest number of instances reported is 7452 and the largest is 13,000,000

      • Most libraries are on Q, R, and S now.

  • Next steps:

    • Use the results to rebuild the Directory (basically a data entry task). We will need to ask the respondent to review the data if there are questions.

    • Complete analysis on the dataset and prepare a presentation for WOLFcon.

    • Write guidelines for doing this in the future--what could have gone better or worse?

  • Questions, discussion, concerns?
