Eureka capabilities

View permissions for reference data is actually allowing all CRUD actions? (Read, create, edit, delete). The below is true in Sunflower, and for some Inventory at least, in Trillium also.

  • settings in circ, this isn’t the case, you only have view

  • settings in inventory, you have all. Documentation describes it this way. Not positive devs would consider a problem?

  • number generators, Owen thinks there is a way to allow users to make the next number in Inventory, but not have access to Settings.

    • Data - UI-Service-Interaction-NumberGenerator - View

  • circ requests has a setting to hide/display action menu elements. But in the background, it doesn’t hook up.

  • settings for authorization roles. action button still there, but you can’t save edits.

  • courses - ability to create/edit terms

  • material types in Inventory settings

    • still an issue in Trillium

    • Data - UI-Inventory Settings List - View

      • grants view only for ALL Inventory settings

  • it’s app by app. Tom thinks the migration muddled thing for some apps. Ticket has come through for fee/fines.

  • in PO meeting they talked about knowing what capabilities to include, default cap sets in github, who is responsible for updating those.

Documentation SIG and POs have been talking about how to better document what each capability can do, so folks will know what to assign

What do we want

  • UI can be improved

  • Take a look at how permissions are handled in FOLIO in general. Easier to understand, easier for devs to implement new stuff so big spaghetti bowls of permissions aren’t the norm

  •  

 

How are libraries using the ILL Policy Field?

  • From the documentation:

    • ILL policy. Select list of values defining the library’s lending policy, the ILL policy. For example, Will lend, Will not lend, Will reproduce, Will not reproduce, etc. Configured in Settings > Inventory > ILL policy.

  • Available via OAI-PMH as 952$r

  • Is it used by any integration?

    • 5 Colleges maybe use this to decide what gets added to Rapid, uses OAI-PMH

  • can do stat code instead? - but that’s not in z39.50 either

  • but publicNote (for holdings) is in z39.50.

  • Miloche Kottman, University of Kansas, would be interested in using ILL Policy if in z39.50, maybe Kara (Wellesley)
