Several times a year, LOC update MARC bib and authority field/indicator/subfield standards. This page brainstorms an approach for applying these updates.

Managing standard MARC validation rule updates - Per Release

Business Requirements

• Provide a tenant details of what rules will be updated so that the tenant can plan for the change since it will require API updates.

• Provide a tenant ability to get the updates.

  • It is assumed that this update may override local rules.

  • It is assumed that the Field Help URL on standard fields may reset to default URL

• The use of the POST/PUT endpoint(s) should be logged to track the date+time stamp versions of FOLIO tenant and MARC rules on the LOC website.

• This proposed approach - will not address system rules updates. These updates will need to be done on a per release basis. - TBD by team

• Need to think about this scenario obsolete then no longer obsolete? Same as standard rule update?
