Several times a year, MARC bib and authority field/indicator/subfield rules maybe modified. In some cases, field/indicator/subfield rules become obsolete. Current implementation

• Can enter a deprecated field/indicator/subfield without displaying an error message

• But displays a Fail message for repeatable rule when the obsolete field/subfield is set to NR

Proposed Business Requirements

If the field has a deprecation value = true THEN

• Set all field/indicator/subfield rules (repeatable status, required status) to trigger a Warn message when deprecation = true

• Allow a library to set a global validation rule to ignore deprecated field validation errors

• Allow a library to set up local spec rules for the field/indicator/subfield and thus the field/indicator/subfield is no longer deprecated

• Example: 715 - ADDED ENTRY--CORPORATE NAME (PERFORMING GROUP) (MU) [OBSOLETE]

2. If the subfield code has a deprecation value = true THEN

• Set all subfield code rules (repeatable status, required status) to trigger a Warn message when deprecation = true

• Allow a library to set a global validation rule to ignore deprecated subfield code validation errors

• Allow a library to set up local spec rules for the subfield code and thus the subfield field is no longer deprecated

3. If the indicator code has a deprecation value = true THEN

• Set all indicator code rules to trigger a Warn message when deprecation = true THEN

• Allow a library to set a global validation rule to ignore deprecated indicator validation errors

• Allow a library to set up local spec rules for the indicator code and thus the field is no longer deprecated
