Question

Answer

How are continuing resources/serials broken out between instance, holding and title?
Will this vary by institution?

How do we create a title level request that includes a volume or season?

  • We could create a volume record (or multi-part)

  • Create item record for each volume or part

How do the IC's do this upon import? Any controlled vocabulary applied?

ICs bring the data in as it is. No transforms applied.

How much scope do we want to take on?

Enough to meet the requirements.

What impacts will this have on Discovery systems? Will UI updates need to be made in Discovery to utilize this new functionality?

UIs will need to be updated - see workflows

If we're creating item records for each volume, and there are item records for copies of volumes, what is being requested?

How do we/does FOLIO distinguish between an item record for a volume vs an item record for a copy of a volume vs monograph or serial?

  • One item record per volume/part, (vol. represented in series statement). There may be multiple copies but we won’t know, and that’s okay.

  • If there is an existing volume statement it’s a volume-item record. If not, it’s a single monographic item.

Requests can be placed on an instance (TLR) or an item (ILR). If the work we're doing can only be done from the item level, can we call this title level requesting for multivolume series and continuing resources?

Are we certain it’s not possible to do this from the instance/title level, if done with controlled vocabulary as proposed?

What parts of this work will require breaking changes? Where will they happen? Who needs to know about them?

Are there known dependencies?

  • Mediated requests (LOC LCSG requirement for congressional loans)

  • API
