Development update

@Owen Stephens

  • Update on GOKB sync pause/restart work

  • General: introducing new process on how data is imported into the local KB

    • (new/updated) data is pushed by external KB into local KB, instead of FOLIO harvesting all data from external KB and loading it into local KB

      • Tenants will be able to filter the data pushed into their local KB by pausing or synchronizing packages

        • will be live on snap shot by End of 19.2. and will be included in Sunflower

      • Keep in mind:

        • Harvesting: when a package is switched from "paused" to "synchronize" the package will not automatically be synchronised again, but it needs to be reharvested

        • Push KB: when switching from pause to synchronised, the local KB will send a request to the external KB to send the data for the new synchronized package

    • Push KB: there will be no filtering on metadata, i.e. incomplete title lists

    • Problems:

      • in case a library cancels a subscription, but retains access to the package up until un-subscribing, the package can be paused, with the push KB, but with regular harvesting, updates to the package will still be harvested and the package will not refelct the library's actual subscription

      • Pausing packages will have impact on the eComparison functionalities, since packages would not be included

      • Logging: push KB will not generate logs in the local KB Admin in same way as harvesting

GOKB: Include incorrect identifiers?

@Daniel Rupp

Seeking for feedback

  • GOKB wants to make a change in relation to identifiers (ISSNs/ISBNs)

    • During the import, if the ISSN/ISBN is incorrect, the whole KBART file will be rejected

  • Possible solutions:

    • Add new namespace for incorrect ISSN/ISBN

      • Preferred solution

    • Incorrect ISSNs/ISBNs will be deleted

  • Owen:

    • FOLIO relies on UUID for importing data from GOKB to local KB, therefore an incorrect ISSN/ISBN wouldn’t impact the harvesting/import

    • namespaces from external sources can be in/excluded from import, therefore incorrect ISSNs/ISBNs could be excluded, if they are saved in a separate namespace

  • Martina:

    • the distinction between valid and invalid may not be relevant for FOLIO, but may cause problems when exporting and matching data to Third party systems

  • Felix Hemme:

    • Having the invalid identifier in a separate NS also allows us to NOT include them in the print/online_identifier column when exporting them as KBART from FOLIO. That is something we have to decide on.

Question (Felix Hemme): Will the multi-select work like in the Inventory app where I can perform a search, select a result, perform another search and select the next result etc. with the selected items sum up? Or will the selection vanish once I clear the search and perform a new one?

  • It should be based on the same mechanism, therefore it should display the same behaviour and will be available on Snapshot by next week
