Draft for UXPROD-4334

Rename UXPROD-Ticket

Capture additional call numbers

Summary

This UXPROD will enable the assignment of additional call numbers to a single holdings/item record within the inventory app. This enhancement addresses the current limitation of one call number per record, which hinders accurate tracking of items with varying locations, editions, or historical call numbers.  By supporting additional call numbers, we will improve traceability, streamline inventory management, and facilitate future transitions of items between locations or collections.

Description

Currently, the inventory app only allows one call number per holdings/item record. This presents challenges in several scenarios: items moved between locations, reference works transitioning to closed stacks, and journal issues moving from reading room to stacks. These situations require tracking both current and previous call numbers for accurate inventory management and traceability. This UXPROD will address these issues by allowing additional call numbers to be associated with a single record, enabling librarians to maintain a complete history of an item's call numbers and simplifying the management of complex collections.

Acceptance criteria

  • Functionality: The system allows the association of additional call numbers with both item and holdings records.

  • User Experience: The user interface for managing additional call numbers is intuitive and easy to use for librarians. Users can easily add, edit, delete, and switch between call numbers.

  • Reporting and Export: All associated call numbers (primary and additional) are correctly included in inventory reports and exports in the required formats (specify formats).

  • Search and Filtering: The app supports searching and filtering by any associated call number (primary or additional) for both items and holdings.

  • Integration: The additional call number functionality integrates seamlessly with other apps, ensuring data consistency between the systems.
