CC Hot Topics & Planned Initiatives

Discussion of possible models for enhancing how we resource software development and maintenance led to characterization of FOLIO core challenges and solutions to explore. Three top areas have emerged:

  • Software marketplace / resourcing software dev + mtce

  • Membership value proposition & campaign

  • Line item contributions for hosting service providers & their customers to contribute resourcing to FOLIO community operations and expenses.

    • there are multiple ideas floating around the community at the moment on community-driven development. There are several models floating around.

      • “FOLIO Blueprint” - from Tom Cramer

      • “Development Initiative Proposal” – from Jeremy Huff

  • Community Prioritization Dashboard

    • started last April; idea is for SIGs to surface their highest priority needs. Good complement to roadmap work. Goal is to create visibility on each SIG’s individual goals. Will help PC see trends, needs and make connections. Reach goal is to make a single, consolidated PC priority list. This is work in progress. May be refreshed quarterly or twice a year, with each release.

  • Standing Meetings page - SIG rollout

    • Confluence has a feature that lets you pull together structured text from tables into an aggregated page. If each SIG puts same text into their meeting page, we can create a single Standing Meetings List page that dynamically provides contact info, agenda, etc.

  • Post-WOLFcon meetings on Friday, September 26

    • Tri-Council meeting from 9 AM - noon CDT

    • Council meetings from 1 PM - 4 PM CDT

    • FOLIO future state – positive statement that addresses

    • Software development marketplace

      • differentiating new dev vs. maintenance

      • supporting modules going forward

      • addressing scenarios when modules stop getting updated

    • Membership campaign

    • Line Item Contributoins

    • AWS – can we make progress? Are there specific opportunities?

      • Future vision for a CI/CD environment for the project

      • Kitfox team is handling DevOps and AWS, have regular sprint review; everyone is welcome to attend

      • AWS Cost Management Group met last year and had some recommendations; may make sense to resurface that or for people to join in

      • Philosophical question: who should be paying for AWS

      • Is there a subgroup who could present/frame this on Friday, September 26?

        • Mark Veksler will be at WOLFcon but not Friday, September 26

        • Stephen Pampell has volunteered to frame AWS at TriCouncil

        • Yogesh and Peter Murray might also have input

        • Simeon says that Mark Veksler, Simeon Warner, Shawn Nicholson, Christopher Spalding had discussions last year on who should be accountable for AWS costs going forward. No resolution last year.

    • Licensing (if Maccabeee’s group is advanced enough by that point) – crosses both technical and business lines

    • Review and reporting from action items surfaced last year; accountability

Jesse Koennecke appreciation moment

  • Jesse is leaving Cornell after 30 years to go to SUNY Binghamton; will be less involved with FOLIO going forward.

  • Jesse has been on FOLIO PC from 2018-2025; also has led WOLFcon program planning last several years and is FOLIO manager

    • CC will be selecting a new FOLIO manager

    • Look for nomination form coming today.
