Item Status Pain Points (2026)
Documenting what is not working about current item status in order to determine next steps…
We [Stanford] have a tech services unit that does record editing. To reinstate a withdrawn item that is suppressed they need to either put the item back to in process and have the branch check the item in or put the item Available through Bulk edit. It is not possible in the item record directly. Also, we are unsure the circulation reasoning, but it has been requested before to withdraw an Aged to Lost item, which is not possible without checking the item in, which then puts it in transit and the branch has to check it in before it can be withdrawn.
Issues identified:
Withdrawn status can be changed in Inventory, but not to Available.
Aged to lost status cannot be changed at all in Inventory
Cannot change from In processing/In transit/Missing to Available in Inventory.
In process vs. In process (non-requestable). Some of Stanford’s materials need to become in-process (non-requestable) upon receipt, namely special collection materials. Because there is no way to go directly from On order status to In-process (non-requestable) or from In process to In process (non-requestable), staff currently have to take many additional steps to add second “dummy” item records - one for discovery and one for acquisitions purposes. Shouldn’t In process and In process (non-requestable) behave similarly?
