  • Texas A&M has decided to migrate in January with Hotfix 3 (self-hosted).
  • Univ of Chicago has a couple of issues that need to be addressed, but is working on a migration starting on December 10 (hosted by Index Data).
  • Hotfix 4 and Kiwi look to be delayed about a week due to last-minute changes.  The Capacity Planning group is meeting early next week to decide.

New functionality for FOLIO: Mod-Inventory-Update

Outcome: decision on inclusion in FOLIO

@Kirstin Kemner-HeekCharlotte Whitt

All GBV library systems are fed by a central catalog, including added and edited records; the libraries are used to this happening in realtime.  The system uses software from the existing union catalog system (using the K10plus metadata standard, Index Data's open source Harvester system, and a new module being added to FOLIO.  Developed jointly by GBV developers and Index Data with Charlotte Whitt as the Product Owner.  This has been presented to the Metadata Management SIG.  This could be useful for libraries beyond GBV.  This is planned for inclusion in Lotus.  This app extends the "source" declaration in Inventory (which is now either "FOLIO" or "MARC").  This doesn't impact the data flow of other apps.  The discussion included how to handle deleted records.  The Data Sync working group is aware of the use cases that mod-inventory-update brings up.

A question about the process—is the Product Council in a position to know enough to approve this?  Or do we have to trust the work of the SIGs and other groups, and what process is there for ensuring that trust?

The Technical Council review process starts when a request is made from Product Council.

Experience reported from Bywater-hosted FOLIO installations is that the delete process has some issues but generally works.

To move forward, PC members need to review the presented material and raise objections on the Product Council Slack channel by next Tuesday, .  Otherwise, lazy consensus will be assumed and PC will make the request to TC for review.

People in the FOLIO project - how do we encourage more people to get engaged and help them do this?

Need new Product Owners for the following areas

    • Loans, Check-in, Check-out, Loan information on Item Details (interim - Cheryl Malmborg)
    • Requests (interim - Brooks Travis)
    • Item State (interim - Charlotte Whitt)
    • Courses (interim - Charlotte Whitt)

Outcome: discussion on ideas to increase participation in FOLIO project

Karen Newbery

What do institutions see as the hurdle to having staff serve as product owners?  For some, the struggle is a protracted staffing crisis at the institution.

Once libraries have implemented, do they find that they have more capacity to participate in the project?  Implemented libraries aren't splitting their attention between two systems, but need work on closing gaps in workflows that resulted as part of the implementation.

It would be useful to have an introduction of what it means to be a Product Owner presented to SIG members.  There might be candidates that are not aware that they can be product owners.  It is good for supporting professional development, and a good way for staff to learn an area of library automation.

Could this be a session at WOLFcont to explain what a Product Owner does and for others to ask questions of existing product owners?

WOLFCon planning: what do we want to cover at next WOLFCon: FOLIO at WOLFcon 2022

Outcome: ideas supplied to WOLFCon planning group by

Additions made to the FOLIO at WOLFcon 2022 document.

Are there topics that cross SIGs and apps that would benefit from joint meetings?  Dashboards, workflow support, design of workflows with and between apps, where there are gaps in functionality.  The UI for FOLIO was designed a very long time ago, and only recently have libraries implemented and used it; do we have an opportunity to test and reconsider?

If this does no harm to libraries that don't add it...if it is additive to mechanisms that already exist...why is there a need for EVERYONE to conduct a heavy review?
