 Description

This function makes available an original cataloguin flow starting from a bibliographic file. The bibliographic file can be in different formats (MARC21, Unimarc, Onix) and it can contain one or more records.

Currently only covers MARC-21, not UNIMARC or ONIX

Deprioritized in favor of using Data Import for now

We're waiting the prototype from David Garcia. We will discuss the first prototype in the next MARCcat meeting (24th of January).

Attached a Load of record_MARCcat_prototype.pptx with the description of the workflow to load a single record in MARCcat.

There are two methods to load a file:
1) a "worksheet style", the user check tag by tag and save the record. The application will assign a new id nbr.
2) a "Overwrite record", the record to be loaded will overwrite an existing one.
In this case we need to develop a new function to allow the merge of the two records. See the attachment for more details.

Comment from the March meeting : MARC-21 can be loaded for Data Import; this story should be a feature for Unimarc or ONIX only. Is this supposed to cover one-by-one MARC-21 records also? Should one-by-one MARC-21 and Unimarc/ONIX be split into separate features?

Comment by Annalisa Di Sabato [ 24/Sep/19 ]

Anya: as I already explained in UXPROD-976 Closed , you can load a single record. The original format of this record can be: MARC21, UNIMARC and ONIX. Before the loading, he will indicate the original format of the record. In this way, during the loading process, the system will call the right function to convert that format in MARC21 and load it in the catalogue..
Please let me know if you have other requests.

Comment by Annalisa Di Sabato [ 26/May/20 ]

The development of this function will be concern to the possibility to import and save a single record in .mrc extension.

The two other functions to allow the import of a record in worksheet or overwrite type mode will be developed in an another version.

Comment by Ann-Marie Breaux (Inactive) [ 19/Jan/21 ]

As of Jan 2021, development of MARCcat has ceased. Will incorporate some features into quickMARC.
