 Description

The location menu on items and holdings could get very long. It would be nice if it could be tailored to display those locations that are commonly needed by the logged in user.

  • Ideally, the set of favorite locations would be created by the user themselves (rather than, say, being inferred from the location specified in the user record).
  • Favorites could be set in user preferences or in the location menu itself, somehow.
  • Need to determine how these would display in the menu - perhaps favorites just display at the top? Or only the favorites display with the ability to expand to view others.

NOTE: This feature was suggested by Siska Humlesjö at Chalmers and hasn't yet been discussed with the SIGs

Zak Burke and Heikki Levanto, you guys are the estimators for location-related features. Can you please SWAG this one when you have the chance?

BTW, we don't currently have any user preferences, but we will be creating some infrastructure for that as part of other, higher priority features before we get to this one. For example, we will need some of the user preferences UI for the UI for password management. We also plan to allow the changing of the current Service point from the same User preferences area (see UXPROD-260 Closed ). Both of those are higher priority features, so please assume at least that much preference infrastructure is in place in these estimates. If there is still a significant amount of user preference infrastructure that would need to be built for this to function, maybe you can indicate that in the estimation notes. Something like "estimates assume that this is the first bit of user preferences implemented. If other user preferences have previously been implemented, we can reduce the estimate to X"

Thanks!! Cate

This has been around since 2018 and is really more of a request for the inventory user interface than one for locations per se. Given the lack of activity on this and the fact that inventory has a planned redesign, I'm going to close this uxprod as "won't do." A new one can be opened if desired.
