 Description

Also known as: Be able to move items and holdings from one FOLIO tenant to another

Current situation or problem:
In an ECS enabled system there is no mechanism for moving data from one member (tenant) to another. Given the location of the data determines what permissions a user must have to be able to access it. The ability to "move" data will satisfy a number of requirements.

In scope
Allow user to "Update ownership" of Holdings or Item

Out of scope
Allow user to "Update ownership" of multiple Holdings or Items - note this will likely be needed in future

Use case(s)

  • User with multiple affiliations creates Holdings or Item in the incorrect member
  • Material ownership is permanently changed from one member to another because the material is sold, donated etc.
  • System is setup with a member (tenant) that represents more sensitive or specialized material with restricted access. Something from the collection is identified as meeting that criteria and would be move to restrict access

Proposed solution/stories

  • Chosen Approach: Add "Update ownership" option to Item and Holdings action menus
  • Or do we continue the patterns already in place for "Move holdings" and "Move items" action menu options - but expand them to move not only from one holdings to another in the same instance, or from one instance to another, but also from one tenant to another

Discussed with Ryan Taylor and Mariia Aloshyna - it will be easier to go with the first proposed solution:

  • Add "Update ownership" option to Item and Holdings action menus
