 Description

Current situation or problem: Library of Congress is creating a new remote storage software system called FETCH to replace IMS, the current system. FETCH and FOLIO will need to integrate. 500,000 items moved from Capitol Hill to remote storage last year.

FETCH is still being created. As of August 29, 2023 the current thinking is as follows:

  • FETCH mainly reaches out to FOLIO to grab info
  • When being processed/shelved, items should not be pageable until they actually hit the shelves
    • Item created
    • Perm location set
    • Set status to in process or in process not requestable
    • When checked in, in process status cleared
  •  Batch import of requests
    • Export spreadsheet of requests from folio, make data align, import to FETCH
  • Integration goal of March 2025
    • Migration of data from LAS to FETCH

In scope

  • determine if FETCH will use edge-remote storage or connect directly with Okapi
  • create integration point so items can be accessioned and circulate from remote storage

Out of scope

Use case(s)

  • New items (many/all?) accessioned by the Library of Congress are shelved in remote storage
  • Staff and patrons can request items from remote storage to use at the library or to take home (only in some cases)
