 Description

Current situation or problem: In a consortium environment, some libraries want to know whether materials are on order at other libraries to help inform their own collection development.

In scope

Viewing instance-related order information from other consortium members from within the Inventory app

Designating orders and order-related information as shareable/non-shareable with other consortium members

Out of scope

Use case(s)

Library A has need for a particular material but has determined they will only acquire it if it is not readily available via resource sharing. An Inventory search across the entire consortium reveals that Library B has this material on order.

A library consortium spread out over a wide geographic area (such as a state or province) has determined that they need a certain number of copies of a given material to cover the needs of the consortium, but that these copies should be spread out to minimize transit time for resource sharing. Library A wants to see which other libraries have ordered this material in order to determine whether they would be an appropriate location to host a copy of this material.

Proposed solution/stories

Allow basic order visibility to all authorized consortium members to confirm whether orders are associated with a given Instance elsewhere in the consortium.

Questions

Do we want to display order information for materials ineligible for resource sharing (e.g. license-restricted electronic resources, reference copies, office copies.)?
Do we want to display the number of copies or simply state that it is on order? (Use case: Library A orders 4 copies, but 2 are intended for internal/noncirculating use, so from a resource sharing standpoint, it effectively only counts as 2 copies.)
