Use case scenarios from Stanford for having the ability specifically to have a notice go out when an automated fine/fee is WAIVED:
- Sometimes people who have fines/fees will reach out to us and provide some sort of explanation (e.g. sick, away from campus unexpectedly) and we’ll waive the fee/fine.
- Sometimes we’ll accidentally not have properly checked in an item and then it accrues overdue fines which need to be waived as it was our fault.
In these use cases there will almost always involve some sort of communication with the patron who was billed, so a notice isn’t 100% necessary, but it would be nice for them to get confirmation the bill was removed, as we have the ability to do so for manually billed items. Having a checkbox to 'notify patron' and add additional comments would also be nice, and/or possibly having multiple types of templates based on the type of "waive" (e.g. we made an exception for the patron vs. we made a mistake) could also be an enhancement.
