 Description

Current situation or problem: When cataloging a MARC bibliographic record, if a MARC authority record does not exist, the current workflow requires the cataloger to close quickMARC and import a new Authority record (until the ability to create a new Authority record from the quickMARC UI), followed by  rekeying the access point. The ability to create the authority record directly from the bibliographic access point supports a more efficient workflow.

Proposed solution/stories

  • Create new icon/option on create, edit, and derive bibliographic records to create a new authority
  • Create corresponding authority record dependent on the specific access point selected

Questions

  • After initiating the creation of the authority record from the bibliographic record, do we bring the user to the new authority record, or remain on the bibliographic record?
  • Do we offer a modal of possible heading options based on the bibliographic data?
  • Do we populate an 040 $a and $c containing the institution's NACO symbol? (would require configuration)
  • How does this interact with templates?
