 Description

Objective: The ability to derive a new record from a template allows catalogers to more efficiently catalog, by providing a base record with the building blocks for any given category of material, as opposed to starting with a blank record. This also allows cataloging administrators to set standards for their institution, such as minimum fields and local fields to include in the records.

Current state: Using existing derive functionality, users have the ability to create templates by importing a new MARC record (set those records as suppressed from discovery) and deriving new bibliographic records from those records. Users also have the option to tag the records as templates in order to more easily identify them in Inventory. Some limitations of this current functionality:

  • More granular permissions on who can create and edit these records
  • Can only create upon import and requires extra steps to suppress from discovery and consider methods for flagging the record as a template if desired
  • Other limitations?

In scope: Templates for MARC bibliographic records

Out of scope

  • MARC authority and holdings templates
  • FOLIO instance/holdings/item templates

Proposed stories:

  • New permission to create and edit templates
  • Ability to differentiate templates from non-templates
  • Ability to CRUD a MARC bib template
    • Identifies record as a template in the paneheader, showing template name
    • Validation
  • Ability to create a New MARC bib record from list of templates
