 Description

Current situation or problem:
Built-in item statuses in FOLIO cannot be customized, but tenants may wish to deactivate one of the built-in item statuses that they don't want staff to use. That would affect behavior in multiple apps across FOLIO.

This feature is meant to encompass needed work in the area of Data import.

In scope

  • Allow deactivation of some item statuses: if no items with that item status exist in the system, do not allow an item to be set to those statuses (via Data Import, Bulk Edit, Inventory, etc.)
  • Remove inactive item statuses from UI options.

Out of scope

  • Graceful handling of deactivation of circulation-related item statuses (assumption that deactivation will mostly be used for non-circ-related statuses, like Restricted). Instead, we will not allow those statuses to be deactivated.
  • Further customization of built-in item statuses ( UXPROD-2606 Draft , UXPROD-1320 Closed )

Use case(s)

  • A library designs a workflow where they want staff to only use Missing for missing items, and they consider Long missing to be superfluous, so they want to deactivate that status so it is not available to be used in FOLIO.

Questions

  • We can likely hide the options for inactive item statuses in the Inventory Items action menu, but we probably can't easily hide the permissions related to those item statuses, since converting a permission to invisible would require editing package.json and restarting the module. What would be the best way to handle those scenarios?
  • Need a better understanding of item status and data export transformations to understand how to write the story for that.
