 Description

Current situation or problem:

Libraries need to be able to allow a patron or library staff member to reserve a resource (e.g. room, study carrel, reserve room item, equipment) in advance according to the library’s schedule of open/closed hours to ensure its availability for the patron.  The patron should be able to make the booking or reservation using the OPAC interface for resources that are viewable in the public interface. The resource can then be checked out to the patron using the library’s specified loan rules for a specific time or date range.

In scope

Supporting the workflow of patron or library staff member to reserve the resource and allowing staff to check out an item. Provide a report for library staff to view upcoming bookings to see what needs to be retrieved.

Out of scope

Equipment loan form. University of Illinois created an electronic form for signing a waiver agreement related to the equipment booking.

Use case(s)

A library patron needs to use a room within the library every Thursday between 5pm and 6pm. The room needs to have a projector and 5 digital cameras during this time. The library staff need to run a report that can viewed online or be printed out . The report needs to show the materials that need to be retrieved today, tomorrow, or a specific date at a specific time.

Once there is a PO for this, I think the RA SIG would want to start discussing feature needs to move things forward.
