 Description

Current situation or problem:

Some libraries utilize loan types as a method to group shelving locations with similar circulation rules in lieu of specifying/excluding locations directly. However, when items are moved between locations the loan type set on the item may no longer match. For reporting purposes and to enable future inline validation functionality opportunities, we would like to add the ability to indicate a default loan type for a shelving location, as well as specify additional allowed (or disallowed) loan types.

In scope

  • Extending location settings to include:
    • An optional default loan type
    • An optional list of allowed loan types for the location
  • Providing a UI to mange these settings.

Out of scope

Implementing functionality in the Inventory UI to consider these settings when editing the location of an item/holdings

Use case(s)

Proposed solution/stories

  • Create an associated settings object with a reference to a shelving location that includes the default loan type id and an array of allowed loan types for that location
