 Description

With the Lotus release, genre/form is included when browsing by subjects.

For Nolana, we need to determine if

  • Adding a Show genre/form filter on the Browse subjects will suffice
  • OR if building a separate browse list to show genre/form is preferred approach.

Two estimates should be done
Estimate 1: Add a genre/form filter on the Browse subjects
Estimate 2: Create genre/form Browse list with the same implementation as subjects, just filter to genre/form only

Potential dependencies

  • May require changes to Inventory handling of subjects to handle genre/form differently on an instance record
  • May require changes to MARC to Inventory mapping of subjects to handle genre/form differently on a bib record

Adding genre/form when source = FOLIO

Adding genre/form when source = MARC

NOTE MARC field 655 contains genre/form

NOTE MARC bib record that contains genre/form (655) quick-export-6.mrc

I do a lot with trying to update subject headings to genre headings so I would love for Inventory to treat genre/form separately in the instance record.  In the long run, I would also like to see genre/form as its own search, but would take it being a filter just to be able to separate the two things.

Also (at some point), it would be wonderful is the instance display mapping and the browse index could be customizable to only include headings with certain values in $2.  That way, if we fail to delete genre headings from lists we don't use, they would not be displayed or returned in a search.

I can't see a way to identify what is subject and what is genre if both of them are stored in one instance field. So, I think the first thing to do in the feature is to create a separate field for genre/form in the instance record.

Thanks for the confirmation Pavlo Smahin.

Feature is blocked until there is an Inventory app decision to handle Genre separate from Subjects.
