 Description

Overview:
Currently, the change due date feature on a loan allows a FOLIO user to change a due date to a day or date/time when a service point is closed. Some libraries do not want this behavior.

In scope:

Out of scope:

Use cases:

  • If a library does not have an external drop box for materials, you do not want an item to be due on a date when the building is closed, since the patron will have no way to return the material.

Proposed solutions/stories:

Additional Info:

Questions:

  • Should this be global behavior (don't allow) with an override feature granted to specific staff?
  • Which service point do you actually check for closed hours? The service point where the logged-in FOLIO user is at? The service point for the effective location for the item? Both?
  • Instead of not allowing the behavior, would it be better to leverage the existing loan policy functionality and follow that rule? So if you try to choose a closed date, it simply rolls forward or backwards following the loan policy?

I don't know that this is a bug, it's probably more a feature that was never properly spec'd out (see https://folio-org.atlassian.net/browse/UXPROD-1636 - it was just not thought of when originally developed.) And there could maybe be reasons we don't want this to be forbidden in all cases... this probably needs to go to the SIG (Holly Mistlebauer)

Support - Anne L. Highsmith please see Erin Nettifee's comment - is this ok to close or is it a bigger issue?

Anya I wouldn't close it but would give it a low priority. As Erin Nettifee said, refer it to the Resource Access SIG and let them decide.

I think we can move this from a bug to a feature request and handle it that way. I'll take care of it Anya

Cheryl Malmborg since this is loans I've assigned it to you, but I don't think this is high priority. In the comments you can see that this appears to essentially be a spec bug that TAMU uncovered during their testing.

Needs proposed behavior in specific cases brought to the SIG. Would a warning message be sufficient? Should change due date reference the loan policy closed management?
