Subject: Currency question for Chalmers
Importance: High

Hi Lisa. I am working on the currency setting feature for FOLIO and I have a question for you.

We have two issues related to this:
UXPROD-517: Ability to set default currency for a tenant (was “Allow entry and display of fees/fines currency in appropriate locale setting” when gap analysis was done) – Rated as “needed for go-live” by Chalmers
UXPROD-302: Locale-driven number format – Rated as “can wait for up to a year after go-live” by Chalmers

According to my research, the currency standard for Sweden is:
Format: 999.999.999,00 kr
Group Size: 3
Grouping Character: . (Dot)
Decimal Character: , (Comma)
Currency Symbol: kr
Currency Symbol Position: After number
Currency Name: Swedish Krona (SEK)

UXPROD-517 Closed will cover the Decimal Character, Currency Symbol, and Currency Symbol Positon.
UXPROD-302 Closed will cover Group Size and Grouping Character.

Given this new information, should UXPROD-302 Closed be rated as “needed for go-live” or “can wait up to one quarter after go-live”? If not, the format will be 999,999,999,00 kr at go-live and may stay that way for up to a year.

Also, when you are display a number that is not currency, such as the number of books in your library, would you display it as 1.276.299?

Thanks for your help with this.

Best regards,
Holly

Subject: RE: Currency question for Chalmers

P.S. I just found something on-line that says the number format is 999 999 999,99 which means that the number of books in the library would display as 1 276 299 (not 1.276.299) and the average number of books per public school library might display as 25 456,34. Is this correct?
Format: 999 999 999,99
• Group Size: 3
• Grouping Character: Space
• Decimal Character: , (Comma)

See UXPROD-517 Closed for mock-up that includes number settings.

Holly renamed this issue per an August 20th email from Cate...

Chalmers needs localized number formats, but they do not need to configure anything more than Locale once.

Cate, I thought you talked to Lisa about downgrading this issue?

I did. Holly Mistlebauer.

Theodor Tolstoy (One-Group.se), did you guys change your mind on this feature? This is one we looked at a week ago or so in this spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-BJPXziJrEt29XhqR8wMoD1ez4oEPfvJtA1fMlRsgYM/edit#gid=968416882 Unfortunately, I didn't leave any notes in this particular feature's row, but we did discuss the fact that it was currently "below-the-line" for Q4 and you guys seemed okay with it, as it wasn't patron-facing and you wanted to prioritize patron-impacting and circ features first. Check out the notes in the row for "Ability to set default currency for a tenant". I captured, "For Chalmers, this isn't critical for fees/fines, as they don't do fees/fines. People could live with things looking strange for a little while. They send out bills today and just put an amount in the patron record." Doesn't that same reasoning apply here?

Comment by Theodor Tolstoy (One-Group.se) [ 10/Oct/18 ]

Yes Cate Boerema, there were a few that we could not remember what we decided on.

When reading through this Jira yesterday, we thought that the main effort here was in the configuration part. I'll get back to you with a new rank.

As I remember it, we decided that you guys could live without both of these for go-live: UXPROD-745 Open and UXPROD-302 Closed

Prioritization is now changed...

Per Jakub Skoczen, this development could be done by UNAM. He'd just like to see an architecture write-up before they get started. Assigning to UNAM as dev team after discussion with Holly.

This feature was completed when Locale was implemented. Locale includes number settings such as decimal places, decimal character, grouping character, currency symbol placement, etc. (Read STCOM-548 Closed for more details.) For the Q2 2019 release we will simply update the Locale description to add "number format." This will be completed as part of the work for UXPROD-517 Closed , setting the default currency.
