Potential Workaround: HK: Workaround, Use FOLIO batch import feature to import a single record.
Tiziana: We are evaluating the external sources that the community indicated as important. one of the most popular external source in US is OCLC WorldCat: libraries catalog in the Connexion client or in the Record Manager web app. These tools use TCP/IP to connect to other ILSs. We can suggest to use FOLIO batch import feature to import a single record as temporary workaround.

 Description

Import individual MARC record from external source (e.g. OCLC, LC, other bibliographic databases) to SRS, which will then serve as the basis for a MARCcat bib record, Inventory instance record, quickMARC, or order. Current plan is integrating with (only) Connexion, triggering import from Inventory, and populating the MARC record into SRS. This may not fit with Batch Importer, but it doesn't have any other home Epic for now.

Index Data working on a solution; work will likely be done in summer 2020

This Feature deals specifically with OCLC

Hi Mike Gorrell This feature says importing individual OCLC records within MARCcat, whereas UXPRID-976 is importing individual OCLC records within Inventory. Is Index Data working on imports from OCLC to both MARCcat and Inventory, or just Inventory?

Created this separate issue to clarify that it covers the use case of importing from within MARCcat (as opposed to UXPROD-976 Closed which is for importing from within Inventory)

Hi Mike Gorrell and Ann-Marie Breaux, this means that this issue is assigned to us (for MARCcat-Bib) or to import in SRS (so, only indirectly the record will arrive in MARCcat db, using specific SRS-to-MARCcat connector?). Thanks for your explanation

Hi Mike Gorrell and Tiziana Possemato I'm going to remove the library rankings from this. My understanding is that importing into MARCcat directly is low-priority, since single OCLC records can be imported via Data Import, and soon will be imported via Inventory as well.

I think this can stay as a Feature, but just low-ranked for MARCcat for now.

Ok, thanks

As of Jan 2021, development of MARCcat has ceased. Will incorporate some features into quickMARC.

Comment by lew235 [ 19/Jan/21 ]

Given the functionality that is already being developed to import individual MARC records from OCLC into Inventory, a separate feature for quickMARC seems superfluous?

Comment by Ann-Marie Breaux (Inactive) [ 20/Jan/21 ]

Hi lew235 and Charlotte Whitt That's my thinking also. Inventory's single record import will create an SRS. quickMARC does not have a separate storage, but rather acts on the existing SRS records. I can't think of a use case where we would need an import from OCLC within quickMARC, at least for Bib records. For authority records, we'll probably need to consider a single record OCLC import option that starts in the new MARC Authority app.

Since this was a MARCcat feature that I closed, I'm changing the title back to MARCcat. And I've sent Khalilah a list of the Closed/Won't do MARCcat features so that she can review at some point, when the already-defined quickMARC work is completed.
