 Description

Current situation or problem:
Currently, if you attempt to check out a requested item to anyone other than the requester, you will not be allowed. Only the requester at the top of the queue can borrow the item. This could be an issue if, for example, a requester pages and item and then another patron picks it up out of the stacks before the circ staff has a chance to collect it for the hold shelf. In some cases you may want to allow the non-requesting patron to check the item out anyway.

In scope:
Allow override when checkout is prevented due to request. If the item is paged, I think we'll also need to require that the request type of the page request be changed to a hold or recall (otherwise it could show up on the page request pick slip reports).

Out of scope:
Permission escalation for override UXPROD-2645 Draft

Use case(s):
As circ staff person
I occasionally want to be able to check out an item to someone other than the requester at the top of the queue
So that the patron at the circ desk can have it, if that is appropriate

Proposed solution/stories (optional):

  • Allow checkout to patron other than requester via override
  • Permission for override non-requester checkout

After talking to Darcy Branchini, I'm assigning these requests-related override tickets to Vega for analysis/estimates, given the recent work with overrides in the circulation modules.

Thomas Trutt, this might be worth a look. It would address an issue raised at the TLR session at Wolfcon23.

This will likely be needed by LC to assist with circulation workflows, like item not on shelf.
