Per discussion here: https://discuss.folio.org/t/loan-policies-renewing-on-fixed-due-date-schedule/1607/19 FOLIO needs to supply different error messages for patrons doing self-checkout and/or renewal than it supplies for FOLIO operators doing the same activities (e.g. the FOLIO operator messages should be much more specific). Plan is to take an iterative approach to this:

How does this relate to the NCIP/SIP2 protocolls used for self-service? Is this needed in orded to get that to work? |

Good question, Theodor Tolstoy (One-Group.se). I'm guessing that NCIP and SIP2 are independent from this, but that, without this feature, the error messages that display for patrons would be the same that are displayed for staff. Looping in Michelle Suranofsky for her thoughts. |

Cate Boerema My thought is the plan for iteration 1, 2 and 3 will work out well for the NCIP development. NCIP (from the Lehigh view) is not patron facing so there is not an urgency for custom messages. Hope that helps. Please let me know if you need more feedback. thank you! |

Thanks Michelle Suranofsky. I believe Chalmers intends to use NCIP for self-checkout, so I guess they should just expect that, until this feature is addressed, the patrons will see the staff-facing messages. |

For Chalmers, we are assuming that we will be able to handle the patron-facing messages in the self-checkout clients. So we are dropping this for now. |
