| Description |
|
When a library orders an item, a patron may be interested in learning when it is available, so that they can then create a request for that item. This feature would allow the library to send notices to users when items they are interested are received and become available. This feature is separate from the requests workflow and notices that go out because of requests. For this feature, the patron does not make a request on the item, but receives a notice anyway. Mentioned by a representative of Smith (or 5 Colleges) at July 10th RM SIG meeting. |

Darcy Branchini and Emma Boettcher - in the case of this scenario, why wouldn't the library simply allow the patron to place a request on the item while it's in an on order state? That's what Duke would do and I think other libraries would probably do the same. |

Or, is this really a request about library staff wanting to see something? It's written pretty broadly, but maybe the use case is more "the cataloger needs to see this first." In that case, I'd suggest that this get a little more specific - and maybe connected to a to-do app? Interested: Andrea Loigman |

Erin Nettifee If I recall correctly, the 5Colleges did distinguish this feature from actually putting a request on the item, and they described it in terms of a patron need, not a staff need. Beyond that I don't have many other details - I got the sense on the call where it was brought up that it was only 5Colleges doing this, not other institutions, so it's never risen very high in terms of priority. |
