 Description

Overview

  • Currently we only bill overdue fines when an item is checked in. We have discussed having pending fees/fines, but these would not actually be billed.
  • This would require a change in the Lost Item Fee Policy to allow libraries to opt in/out.
  • Susan Kimball brought this to Holly's attention via Slack on June 3, 2020 as a possible future requirement -

This aspect of the billing is not needed by Chicago. We only charge overdue fines when an item is returned. If an item ages to lost and is given a lost item fee bill, and then is returned, we do need the system to waive the lost item fee and then have the overdue fines applied at the moment of checkin. But we don't need (or want) them to be billed at the time that the item ages to lost.

I'd like to add a request to this feature, that if both are charged (lost and overdue) that the overdue fines have the ability to be capped at a value determined in the policy (e.g., libraries can specify that value.) I'm not sure if that's already been captured in the conversation.
