 Description

Purpose: Chalmers want the check out count to be to be easily identified when opening an item record.

Usecase: provided by Chalmers
As a staff person
I want to see the circulation counts in the item record summary that shows in the instance
So that I can quickly assess the activity for items without having to click into each one of them

NOTE: ???
As a second step, consider totalling the checkouts at the location and instance level, and showing those totals in the holdings and instance levels as well.
As a third step, consider including the counts for weeded/lost item records in the totals as well.

Other comments relevant for prioritization:
This is feedback from Chalmers. This is medium priority for them. Please review and determine next step (finalize into a story, mark as will not implement, need more info, delete, etc.). The label chalmers_debut_follow up helps us keep these issues all findable as a group.

Should this have the label "chalmers_debut_followup"? Charlotte Whitt
I can see that we have not ranked it yet, but I would say that this is of Medium-high priority for us. Will make it more efficient for aquisitions/collection development staff.

Comment by Siska [ 16/Jan/20 ]

There's been a misunderstanding here. We do not want the count to be displayed when opening an Inventory record but to be easily identified when opening an item record. Charlotte Whitt

Thanks Siska - I'll update this feature ( UXPROD-2035 Draft ) and story ( UIIN-579 Draft ) accordingly.
Do you maybe have a written up spec for the change Chalmers is suggesting.
That would ease my work on rewriting.

Please note, that have right now used strike through of text. And will put both feature and story in Draft.

Marie Widigson - the label chalmers_debut_follow is already associated with the jira story UIIN-579 Draft . We normally don't assign these labels to features

Comment by Brooks Travis [ 03/Oct/20 ]

I believe that Sierra implemented this as an incrementing field(s) on the item record, itself, rather than a count of circulation transactions that was then displayed with the record. In fact, I believe that had Total Circulation and YTD Circ counts on items.

Would the development of this feature support inputting historical information, for migrating libraries to be further incremented post go-live?

Comment by Molly Driscoll [ 14/Oct/21 ]

OKanagan College would rank development of this feature highly. They are ne of the spring/summer 2021 implementers, but have not yet been added to Jira as a ranker due to anticipated changes on ranking procedures.

Comment by Charlotte Whitt [ 15/Oct/21 ]

Molly Driscoll - this feature has been ranked very low by the libraries (until now) - see above where the Calculated Total Rank is only: 17

As you probably know then the whole process around ranking of features is being discussed and reviewed by the PC and the Capacity Planning Team, and in future we might not continue the ranking process as we know it until now, but a process more like the Kiwi pointing process.

I have now noted OKanagan College's interest in this feature, and when we know more about ranking of features for Lotus and Morning Glory - I'd be happy to work with the RA and MM SIG on how to implement the work.

Comment by Molly Driscoll [ 19/Oct/21 ]

Thank you Charlotte Whitt! Yes, I've heard the ranking/pointing procedures are in flux, so am trying to help the libraries I work with that don't have ranking privileges yet by commenting on the tickets important to them until there is a new mechanism for them to express their support for a feature. I really appreciate the follow-up!

Comment by Molly Driscoll [ 20/Oct/21 ]

Coincidentally, Washington College (going live in January 2022) just requested this feature as well.
