 Description

Standard Interchange Protocol (SIP) was originally developed by 3M. SIP2 (version 2 of the protocol) is the most commonly adopted by library automation vendors standard for communication between ILS and self-service kiosks.

The specification: http://multimedia.3m.com/mws/media/355361O/sip2-protocol.pdf

Additional features include functions not used in Sierra but supported by Voyager, Alma and some other ILS :

  • Item Information
  • Patron Status (enhancement for Patron Information - already implemented)
  • Renew
  • Renew All

What is meant by "item information" in this context? Can FOLIO not otherwise use SIP2 to pass along title, call number, etc. when checking out items?
Chicago doesn't need the renew or renew all features, nor do we need to view all current loans, but we do need the information about the item being checked out.

David Bottorff Item Information in this context refers to a request and response pair supported by SIP2 Protocol. If University of Chicago doesn't need renew or renew all functionality on the self-checkout kiosk then most likely you won't need Item Information. Check out message already contains independent item information that identifies the item.

FOLIO response for checkout request contains following fields:
<ok><renewal ok><magnetic media><desensitize><transaction date><institution id><patron identifier><item identifier><title identifier><due date><fee type><security inhibit><currency type><fee amount><media type><item properties><transaction id><screen message><print line>

when Item Information would contain this:
<circulation status><hold queue length><security marker><fee type><transaction date><due date><recall date><hold pickup date><item identifier><title identifier><owner><currency type><fee amount><media type><permanent location><current location><item properties><screen message><print line>

Magda Zacharska I think the Q3 2019 fix version was added in error. I removed.

Hi Tim Auger - I see a couple of jiras which looks like they are closed, but now their status is set as Open. Are these the stories you are working on for Poppy?

Charlotte Whitt Yes, Volaris is working on renew ( SIP2-121 Closed ) for Poppy.

Comment by Oleksii Petrenko [ 14/Feb/23 ]

Keep only Poppy as fix version.

To remind: only one version for feature. Please clone feature if need to tag it to another release

Thank you

The last open issue associated with this feature will be picked up by Index Data. According to Jakub Skoczen, Index Data will develop in Poppy the remaining messages defined in the SIP2 protocol that are not yet implemented in FOLIO.
