Potential Workaround: Cate Boerema: Workaround for MVP could be to use the format list as-is, as we already have a format menu on the Instance record and a place in settings where you can CRUD the values. The default list is long, so a category would be nice, but you are certainly able to view and select formats without the category feature.

PO Rank: 89
PO Ranking Note: CW: Implementation of format categories will improve the filter display i the first pane by having the long list of formats displayed hierarchical. The categories are part of the RDA standard.
This is a new feature, that explains the low calculated rank.

 Description

Overview: Wrap-up work on the Instance record. Parts of the Instance record as of Q4 2018 were only following thin-thread and half-baked implementation of identified missing metadata elements. Work will focus on

  1. Settings > Inventory > Instance: Implement format category

Inventory instances already have a format menu with a place in settings where formats can be configured. The purpose of this feature is to enhance that functionality by providing a way to group formats into format categories. This would entail:

  • Creating a place in Settings for configuring format categories
  • Making it possible to assign formats to format categories (also in settings)
  • In inventory, adding an additional menu for format categories that you would select first and would then limit the formats from which you could choose

Out of scope for this feature (though something that could build upon this foundation) is the ability to filter instances by format categories.

Removing the institution rankings as, per PC request, it is our policy not to carry over rankings for split features.

We (Cornell) think that this is important for RA folks.
